Title | High Court of Admiralty: Instance Court: Assignation Books, Series I |
Date | 1671-1767 |
Description | This series contains assignation books (series I) of the Instance Court. These assignation books contain brief notes of the proceedings of each session of the Instance Court, and also record the formal adjournment of sittings of oyer and terminer at Admiralty Sessions. The earliest assignation book in the series covers 1671 to 1673; the others cover 1747 to 1767. Each entry gives the current state of the case concerned, and the names of the proctors acting in it. The final part of each entry is a summary of action taken at the hearing, which might be a final judgment but is more often than not a postponement. |
