Description | Registers of all persons in England and Wales charged with indictable offences showing the results of the trials, the sentences in case of conviction, and dates of execution of persons sentence to death; some of the registers contain personal information respecting the prisoners. Until 1850 Middlesex is excluded, its earlier records being in HO 26. PLEASE NOTE: Electronic images of these registers can be searched online. |
Arrangement | The registers are arranged in alphabetical order of county, county boroughs being included under the appropriate counties. It should be noted, however, that the city of Bristol is listed after Gloucestershire; Carnarvon is so spelled; Hampshire is listed as Hants from 1805 to 1837 but thereafter as Southampton; London is listed with Middlesex; Shropshire is listed as Shropshire from 1805 to 1808 but thereafter as Salop; Monmouth is treated as an English county throughout; Welsh counties are listed separately after English counties from 1805 to 1814 and from 1855 onwards, but with the English counties between 1815 and 1854. |
