Fire Brigades Division and Fire Service Department

Files of the Fire Brigades Division (F.B.Gen series), including re-registered files from the main Home Office numerical series, dealing with the general direction of the fire service by the Home Secretary under the Fire Brigades Act 1938; and files of the Fire Service Department (K series), dealing with legislation, organisation, co-ordination and other matters concerning the central control of the National Fire Service set up under the Fire Services (Emergency Provisions) Act 1941 and with the re-establishment of local authority fire services under the Fire Services Act 1947. A few files relate to fire services after the abolition of the National Fire Service and the restoration of local fire services in 1948.
