Description | The records in this series consist of registered files created by the Post Office for matters for which the Home Office became responsible after 1974. They are from the General Post Office's central registry P (Preservation) series and the decentralised (from the early 1950s) BB and BD (Broadcasting Branch) registries relating to broadcasting responsibilities The files relate to the development of television and radio services and various broadcasting matters including: the interpretation and implementation of the Television Acts 1954 and 1963, the Copyright Act 1956 and the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967; policy in respect of licensing and charging for broadcasting and television services including the BBC Charter and Licence; appointments to the BBC and ITA; papers of the Beveridge Committee on Broadcasting, the Television Advisory Committee, the Committee on the BBC and the Ministerial Committee on Broadcasting. |
