Title Home Office: Long Papers
Date 1897-1963
Description

Bundles of papers which have not been placed on the appropriate file in HO 45, HO 144, HO 291 or HO 287 because of their size. They include the papers of committees of enquiry into the police forces, abortion, parliamentary representation and other matters in which the Home Office was involved. They also contain papers of the Advisory Council on the Treatment of Offenders.

Arrangement

A Long Paper is a collection of papers too large or bulky to be filed, and which therefore has to be stored separately from the file in which it would otherwise be placed. Each Long Paper has an identifying number prefixed 'LP', eg LP 101, and the related or 'parent' file is cross-referenced to this number.
