Folios 422-424. Letter from James Richards and Hannah Richards of Kilmington to the Poor Law Commission. Hannah had a small property in the parish of Axminster, mortgaged to her attorney Mr W Bond for £50. Since shortly after their marriage in April 1844 she had been ill, breast cancer, then inflammation to her right side and kidney and problems with the wound of her breast, and mostly confined to bed. James had lost some property to a fire and his small business and spent his time nursing her. He had applied to Bond for some money as he held the security of the property, to no avail. He had applied to the overseers at Kilmington for a loan, but they were taking time to consider it. He thought she would die while waiting and begged the Commissioners to interfere on their behalf. Annotated: ascertain if any correspondence on this case. Notes for reply. Paper Number: 12526/A/1846. Poor Law Union Number 76. Counties: Devon and Dorset.
